The City of Dana Point Community Development Department is seeking an experience, self-motivated, inspirational Planning Manager to join a dynamic and committed team. The Planning Manager reports to the Director of Community Development and will exercise direct supervision to professional and technical staff, and direct service to property owners, developers, and contractors. As the leader of a small, full-service Planning Division, the Manager must have a broad base of experience and knowledge of local government planning, preferably in a Southern California coastal community, and a clear understanding of the role of a manager in local government.

Candidates must possess ten years of progressively responsible work in planning and community development. The majority of this experience should consist of high-level management and supervisory responsibilities. Experience in a public agency working in a management classification is highly desirable. Experience with the California Coastal Act and Form Based Codes is highly desirable.

A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in planning, urban design, or a closely related field is required. Master’s degree in related field along with a designation of American Institute of Certified Planner (AICP) is highly desirable. Candidates should possess or be able to obtain a valid California Drivers License. This position is exempt under FLSA standards.
